Who we are

The Shawnee Honor Fund is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization (pending) that operates as a voluntary land tax benefitting the Shawnee Nations. Through unfair and often unlawful treaties, war, and systematic forced violent removal, the original inhabitants and stewards of the land across North America were robbed of their homes.

Every year and with every new transaction those who own and steward lands pay property taxes to the US government who stole, conquered, or swindled this land from the rightful stewards. While the US government benefits annually from these funds, the original Indigenous inhabitants descendants and ancestors remain far removed, uncompensated, and in some cases still fighting for recognition or control of the land they were told was theirs generations ago.

The Shawnee Honor Fund (SHF) is an opportunity for non-Native people to contribute to the rematration of ancestral lands, efforts to preserve language and culture in Shawnee youth, reinternment of ancestral remains, and the other needs of the tribes. Supporting the SHF is an opportunity to acknowledge a hurtful past and take practical steps toward repair with the rightful stewards of this land.

The Shawnee Honor Fund believes this practice is a necessary part of the racial and ecological healing that people and land need.
